How do I make an appointment?

To make an appointment or contact me please message me from the contact section of this website; send an email ; or phone on 0771 5506303 (please be aware that I may be in clinic so leave a message if I am not available). It is then often useful to arrange a telephone consultation to decide whether working with a psychologist will be helpful for you. There is no fee for a telephone consultation.

What is psychological therapy like?

The first session is usually about finding out more information about your current situation so that we can work together to develop a psychological understanding of what is going on for you right now. We will discuss what you would like to achieve from psychological therapy, and we will generally formulate a plan on how we might approach the situation.

How often will we meet and  how many sessions will I need?

This is variable and it will depend on what you want from psychological therapy. It is useful to meet on a regular basis, ideally weekly or fortnightly. Typically, therapy with psychologists can last  between10-25sessions; though longer term work is also possible. There is no obligation to complete the agreed number of sessions, and you can leave therapy at any time.

Are our sessions confidential?

Yes, of course. However, there are exceptions to this. For example, if someone is at risk of harm then I have a duty of care to contact an appropriate professional to minimise this risk. I will always endeavour to speak with you about this first.

What are the fees?

Fees are £130 per 50minute session for people who self-refer. Payments are generally made via bank transfer unless agreed otherwise. For insurance companies the fees may be set at a different rate.

Can I use health insurance to cover the cost?

Yes. I am registered provider with most major insurance providers including Aviva, AXA/PPP, BUPA, Cigna and Validium. You will generally need to have an authorisation code from your insurance company to proceed. Please check with your insurance provider for their requirements for accessing psychological therapy.

What if I need to cancel a session?

You can cancel an appointment by contacting me by email or phone. If you give at least 24hours notice there will be no charge for the missed appointment. Appointments that are cancelled with less than 24hours notice are charged at the full rate. This is because it is not possible to fill this appointment slot at such short notice.

Is there disabled access?

My clinic space is one the first floor and is accessed via stairs. It may be possible to find an alternative space in the building that is more accessible if required. Please ask about this on enquiry.

How do I get there?

Tower House is situated in Fishergate, near to the centre of York (see map). Free on street parking (for 60mins) is available on Blue Bridge Lane. There is also a car park accessible via Blue Bridge Lane, Winterscale Street and parts of Melbourne Street. The nearest paid car park is Barbican-Q, which is five minutes walk. It is a twenty minute walk from York Train Station and is accessible via city centre bus routes.
